Top seeds compete for podium at national tennis tournament
The The battle for the podium among the top seeds begins on Thursday (today) at the fourth Michael & Felicia Alabi Memorial National Table Tennis Championships taking place in Otan Ayegbaju, Osun State.
It is organized by the Osun State Table Tennis Association with support from the Michael and Felicia Alabi Memorial Foundation and Canada-based Jodal Health Care, with over 28 states competing in 14 events.
Number one seeds in men and women's singles: Akinwale Fagbamila of Ondo State and Bisola Asaju of Rivers will taste action, while other top seeds will also be in action.
Fgbamila has said he is in Osun to take home the highest prize before others.
There is no doubt that this tournament has improved every year with the arrival of new players. But nothing can stop me from getting the gold medal for my state because I have trained well and will put all my hard work into practice when the competitions start, Fagbamila said.
Commonwealth Games medalist Isau Ogunkunle, who claimed the first gold medal for Ogun State at the tournament, has commended the sponsors for staying true to the tournament.

The tournament is a ranking event of the Nigeria Table Tennis Federation and the results will be used for the 2024 national rankings.
