Former Michigan football player, Belleville star drowns at 22
CACHE COUNTY, Utah A former Michigan football player and Belleville High School star died in a drowning accident at age 22.
Andre Seldon Jr. joined the Wolverines out of Belleville in June 2018 and eventually enrolled in January 2020. He was a four-star cornerback recruit in the 2020 class.
Seldon spent two years in Ann Arbor before transferring to New Mexico State. In 2022 and 2023, he recorded 98 tackles and two interceptions with the Aggies.
He transferred to Utah State this offseason.
Utah State announced Seldon's passing on Sunday, July 21, 2024 at 12:59 a.m.
Officials with the Cache County Sheriff's Office said they were called to the Porcupine Dam at 2:20 p.m. Saturday. A caller told them a young man, later identified as Seldon, dove off the cliffs into the water and did not resurface.
Search and rescue teams and divers went to the scene and searched for Seldon. His body was found in the water at 9:05 p.m. Saturday, police said.
Our initial investigation indicates that this was a tragic accident as multiple witnesses provided the same information, the sheriff's office said.
Seldon was 22 years old and was scheduled to begin classes at Utah State University in the fall.

I had a prior relationship with Andre during our time together at New Mexico State, and I can tell you what an incredible person and teammate he was.
