Mill Valley's Grumet Wins National Tennis Title
Mill Valley's Gus Grumet lived up to his top seed by winning the USTA 16 National Championship in Kalamazoo, Michigan on Sunday.
Grumet defeated Arin Pallegar of Granite Bay in the final on Sunday in three sets, 6-7 (4), 6-2, 7-6 (2), to win the tournament.
Grumet also needed three sets in the semifinals on Saturday to beat sixth-seeded Keaton Hance, winning 6-3, 2-6, 6-3.
Grumet, who plays for University High in San Francisco, automatically qualifies for the main draw of the US Open Junior Boys, which begins on September 1. Grumet also won the USTA Boys 16 Clay Court National Championships in Delray Beach, Florida, earlier this summer.
Hall of Fame
The Redwood High School Athletic Hall of Fame is seeking nominations for athletes, coaches, special recognition, and team categories. Athletes must have graduated in 2010 or earlier and participated in a sporting activity while at Redwood.
