Tennis set for PIAA finals | News, sports, jobs

HERSHEY – One singles player and two doubles teams from Blair County will compete in the PIAA Girls Tennis Championships starting today at the Hershey Racquet Club.

District 6 Class 2A singles champion Julia Ritchey of Central will begin play at 8 a.m. against District 12 champion Emerson Selgrath of Lansdale Catholic, with a spot in the 4 p.m. quarterfinals on the line.

Crosby Denis and Grace Muriceak of Hollidaysburg, the District 6 Class 3A doubles champions, will play District 3 runners-up Elizabeth Tony and Brooke Schiavone of Dallastown at 2 p.m. The quarter-finals are scheduled for 6:30 PM

Zoe Grill and Kate Dunn of Central, the District 6 2A doubles champions, will meet District 12 champions Rena Liu and Sophia Plastaras of Masterman at 10 a.m., while the quarterfinals are at 4 p.m.

Other notable first-round matchups include:

Haley Hundley of Chestnut Ridge meets Sarah Buck of Hughesville in 2A singles.

Central Mountain's Addison Lindsay will play Mechanicsburg's Taryn Zerby in 3A singles.

Kasey Shuke and Sadie Livengood of Bedford will face Annaka Bruder and Georgia Randall of Hughesville in the 2A doubles match.

ICE HOCKEY

Tigers on edge

The Hollidaysburg ice hockey team lost to Somerset 6-5 in overtime after giving up five unanswered goals on Galactic Ice on Thursday.

Cole Lucas scored the game winner for Somerset.

Cole Hartman had a goal and three assists for Hollidaysburg, and Ty Fitzgerald and Landen Petrunak each scored two goals.
