Kevin Wright returns as Carmel HS football coach
Wright led the Greyhounds to a Class 5A state championship in 2011 and back-to-back runner-up finishes in 2013 and 2014.
CARMEL, Ind. A familiar name returns to lead the Carmel High School football program.
Jim Inskeep, director of athletics for Carmel Clay Schools confirmed in a social media post that Kevin Wright returns to the Greyhounds.
Wright led Carmel to a Class 5A state championship in 2011 and back-to-back state runner-up finishes in 2013 and 2014. In 2015, Wright resigned after five years to take the head coaching position at IMG Academy in Florida , a role he held through 2019. He led the program to a 44-2 record, with three consecutive undefeated seasons.
In 2020, Wright was named tight ends coach for the Indiana University football program.
Prior to his first stint at Carmel, Wright was the offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach at Western Kentucky University from 2007 to 2008. He established himself among the state's top coaches by leading Warren Central to state championships in three straight years from 2003 to 2005. His father, Bud, is the winningest coach in Indiana high school football history. according to IU.
Wright attended Sheridan High School, where he played running back for his father from 1979-82. From 1983 to 1986, he was a wide receiver at Western Kentucky University.
In 2022, Wright was inducted into the Indiana Football Hall of Fame. He has a 229-65 overall record, four state championships and two state runner-up finishes as a head coach.
