Reece claims opening day six-wicket Trek

A six Wicket trait from Luis Reece and four from Anuj Dal were given Derbyshires season to an impressive start on the opening day of the Rothesay County Championship Division Two match against Gloucestershire in Derby.

Reece claimed his 150th first -class Wicket for Derbyshire to end with six to 52, while Dal had figures from four to 38 of 16 overs, because Gloucestershire was excluded shortly after tea before 222.

Only Graeme van Buuren with 67 and 48 from skipper James Bracey offered long -term resistance and in response Caleb Jewell plundered 61 of 48 balls with Derbantshire that at 127 for two ditch.

A year ago there was no ball bent in this fixture after weeks of rain, but this time blue skies and sunshine marked the start of the season on the provincial ground.

Despite the glorious weather, a good lawn Wayne Madsen convinced in his second enchantment as a captain after a nine -year -old gap, to first bowle and was rewarded with a wicket in the fourth.

Chris Dent went to Reece, but only succeeded in watering a catch behind the leg side.

It was a bad shot and another poorly movable battle was good for Ben Charlesworth who had looked closely, Reece and Zak Chappell for boundaries.

Reece and Martin Andersson tied the Batsmen and the pressure told when Charlesworth pointed a solid foot ride that ended in Madsens in second slip.

The introduction of valley at the end of the city with its nagging medium pace brought further success when Gloucestershire lost two wickets in four overs.

Miles Hammond was pulled to play at one just outside the stump and the resulting edge went low to the first slip where Jewell took a nice catch.

Dal then found some extra bouncing to Ollie Price who could not keep the ball down and this time Madsen took a low catch with the second slip.

The morning would have been even better for the home team if David Lloyd had succeeded in holding on a fierce chance of Gully when Bracey was at 12, but the first session was from Derbantshire.

Bracey and Van Buuren started to restore the balance after lunch and looked set until Dal shifted the initiative again with two wickets in successive overs.

He squeezed a Yorker under Braceys Bat to break a standard of 69 of 123 balls and then Tom Price was afraid to bring the visitors for six to 138.

Dal took his sweater with the impressive figures from four to 26 of 14 overs, six of them girls, and Derbantshire had to remove Van Buuren at 54 when a top -edge trek to Andersson was spilled by Pat Brown who ran to the square leg.

It threatened to be expensive, because Zaman Akhter offered sensible support to help Van Buuren send Gloucestershire to respectability, but unraveled after tea.

Reeces first ball of the evening session seduced Van Buuren in an attraction that he skied in the hands of the fine leg to end a partnership of 67 with Akhter that was bent in the same drive.

In his next about it, Reece waved in one to have Marchant the Lange LBW and he closed the innings when Matt Taylor turned to slip for the first time.

It was an impressive representation of control and accuracy of Reece and Dal, but Gloucestershires -Bowlers did not succeed in showing in the same discipline, so Lloyd and Jewell 50 could reach in the 8th.

Although Lloyd was bent by Tom Price, Jewell stopped in Taylor and took five four of his fifth to reach 50 only 37 balls.

It was threatening to be ugly for Gloucestershire until Jewell pulled the long to fine leg to take a bit of the Shine Off Derbyshires Day.

Derbantshire All Rounder Luis Reece said: “It is a great start, that is exactly the day we were looking. There was a lot of talking to touch the ground and I think we did that.

“I thought Nuj (Anuj Dal) was great. That first spell was especially absolutely out of outstanding and he earned more than what he got. He got four, but I thought he bowed much better than that, he was a constant threat.

“I think that is the beauty of our bowling attack, we have a mix of everything and if it's not a person's day, another can perform. We have three all the rounders in our side that departs the batting and bowling.”
