USLW Match Preview: Vermont Green vs. New England Mutiny

The echoes of Saturday night’s sensational home win will follow the Women in Green all the way to Ludlow, Massachusetts, where they will face the New England Mutiny on Tuesday night. Virtue Field and Lusitano Stadium are about 210 miles apart, and the Green will pass through them all on their way to their third game of the season.
It will be the first of three meetings between the clubs in 2026, with a home game on June 6 and another trip to Ludlow on June 27 to complete the regular season.
MUTINING IN FOCUS
Founded in 1999, the Mutiny is one of the oldest women’s teams currently active in American soccer. They have competed in other competitions outside of the USL W League, fielding teams in the old W-League, WPSL, WPSLE and UWS. The Mutiny is the sister club of Western Mass Pioneers, one of the Vermont Green Men’s fiercest rivals.
“The creation of the USL W league Northeast Division gives us exactly what New England fans want: more high-level soccer at Lusitano Stadium,” club president Carlos Chaves said in a statement to the United Soccer League. “The Mutiny has always provided an elite pathway for its players and the W League aligns us with that mission by allowing our players to compete nationally on a professional stage.”
In their first match of the USLW season, the Mutiny fell 2-0 to the Hudson Valley Crusaders. Three days later they played Hartford Athletic for a hard-fought, scoreless draw. The Mutiny currently sit fifth in the Northeast Division, while our undefeated Women in Green sit at the top of the table.
BAYSTAAT GREEN
Quite a few Vermont Green players will return to their home state for the match against the Mutiny. Eight Women in Green come from across the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, six of whom have already made their Vermont Green debut this season.
#4 Emily Mara from Winchester, MA has started both matches on top for the Green and has recorded a handful of shots so far this season with one landing on frame.
#7 Brooke Birtwistle from Hopkinton, MA is a steady presence on our back line and has the ability to create threatening free kicks such as the one that led to the winning goal against the Crusaders on home ground.
#21 Georgina Clarke also hails from Hopkinton, MA, and cemented herself in the VGFC history books by scoring the first USLW goal for the Women in Green at Virtue Field.
#20 Tess Barrett from Cohasset, MA is a talented attacking threat for the Greens, and despite finding the back of the net against the Crusaders, her goal was called back for offside.
#15 Bridget Kennedy from Grafton, MA lines up with Birtwistle on the backline, providing pace down the touchline, smart ball touches and dangerous crosses into the penalty area.
#24 Lily Gibbs from Dedham, MA has been a difference maker for the Green in both games of the season so far, coming off the bench with an energy that tested both backlines for the Crusaders and the Athletic.
