18 sports venues under scrutiny as FISU technical committee chairs visit North Carolina

18 summer sports experts from 15 countries just spent 15 days visiting the future venues of the FISU World University Games in North Carolina 2029. The visitors, led by Jing Zhao, FISU Summer Games Director and including Brian Carrer, Senior Sports Manager; Josh Miethke, sports manager; and Lara Bernassi, sports manager of the FISU side, took part in site inspections, technical seminars and individual sports meetings.

18 disciplines that are part of the event’s sports program were represented:

• Josef Zellweger from Switzerland (rhythmic gymnastics)

• Tom Baster of Great Britain (swimming)
• Andrzej Hrehorowicz from Poland (table tennis)
• Russell Ahn from the United States (Taekwondo)
• Nao Kawatei from Japan (tennis)
• Melanie Sanford from Canada (volleyball)
• Michael Goldenberg from the United States (water polo),
• Luc Vergoosen from the Netherlands (3×3 wheelchair basketball).

FISU’s next visit is scheduled for November 2026, when FISU executives expect to be joined by the Baseball and Softball TCCs.
