Nolan Teasley will oversee the Vikings’ 53-man roster and direct football operations
The Vikings officially introduced former Seahawks assistant GM Nolan Teasley as the new General Manager in Minnesota on Wednesday.
During the press conference it became clear that Teasley is the boss.
“He is the general manager of the organization,” owner Mark Wilf told reporters. “He has the final say on the selection, out of 53[-man roster]but ultimately he will rely heavily – and he will say so himself – on our head coach [Kevin O’Connell]obviously, and people like it [executive V.P. of football operations] Rob Brzezinski in the building with deep experience and complementary skills. So I think we pulled it all off in a great way. And I believe this is a great move for the organization, a great move for the Minnesota Vikings.”
Wilf added that Teasley and O’Connell will both report directly to the owner, while Brzezinski will report to Teasley.
“Nolan, the general manager, reports to both the owner and the head coach,” Wilf said. “Robbing [Brzezinski] is part of the football operations and football organization under Nolan. So again, ultimately that’s the structure. That’s how it is. When it comes to structure, we have a problem.”
Wilf is right. It’s not about moving up in rank. It’s about collaboration. The different parties must be able to get along with each other. To build consensus. To always remember that it is about finding the best solution for the organization.
Teasley will be the leader of the football operation. O’Connell is the leader of the locker room. The more they work together, the better off the Vikings will be.
