LEWISTON Each winter, Cooper, Daxton and Drew St. Hilaire played hockey together as brothers, and like any child on a backyard ice rink or a frozen pond, there were occasional visions of winning a championship.
It was not until last summer, however, that the idea of playing together on a team even came to mind, Drew being three years older than his son. twin brothers.
"You know, working and all that, you think about it like," OK, they're going to be freshmen, I'm going to be a senior, if they succeed, there's a chance that we end up playing together, "said Drew.
Drew added, "I think we sort of knew we would play together at some point, but we didn't think you knew it, we dreamed about it, but you have to work for it, you never really think you could get there until you do, and it's just sort of telling. "
Although not unprecedented, for example, Mike, Dave and Dan Boucher got together for a few games in the early 1970s, three brothers playing together for the Lewiston college team is a rare event.
To make their season together even sweeter, the last game for the Saint-Hilaires trio will be the State Men's Class A Hockey Championship on Saturday (6 p.m., at the Androscoggin Bank Colisee).
"I think it was right after (the semi-final victory), I hugged (Daxton) and I said to myself, 'We are going to do this,'" said Drew. "This is something special for me."
"I remember being a young kid in the stands watching (the championship teams a few years ago). They put these great players on the ice, ”said Daxton. "I always wanted to be there."
If it weren't for Drew, it's possible that Daxton was not part of the Blue Devils college team. Drew played his first three years at Lewiston, but has returned to defense this season. That meant one more seat available at the front, where Daxton plays.

"But he still had to win that spot, and nothing was given to them," said Drew.
"I didn't know he was playing D until a few days before (the season), so I'm a little excited because he opened up a place for me," said Daxton .
"I thought I had a decent chance (of becoming an academic), but as the practice continued, I thought maybe someone might excite me, but I continued to work on it, "added Daxton.
Cooper said he also thought he had "a pretty good chance" of being part of the university team as a defender, "but there are other students in the second year and seniors who have also tried it, so I had to work hard to get a spot on the list. " "
Drew's change of position made the odds of that a little more difficult, but now that they're both blue liners, Cooper said: "It's pretty cool because we have much more to hang around because we're on the same team. And it's a D, I'm a D, so it's fun to interact when you're on the bench. "
This season has been "quite an experience," said Drew.
"I think of them much younger than me, and driving to school the first day with them in the truck was kind of an experience, and bringing them here (to the Coliseum) was something else, but it & # 39; s awesome, I love it, "he said. "I wouldn't change anything for the world."
The three have contributed to the Blue Devils game sheet this season. Cooper's first college goal even came in the same match as Daxton scored his second goal.
"It was pretty cool, but we wanted Drew to score really bad," said Cooper, "but he didn't."
The St. Hilaires were particularly productive at the end of the season. Cooper and Daxton's double-scoring game took place in the penultimate game of the regular season, and Drew and Daxton both scored in each of the Blue Devils' last three games before the start of the games. playoffs.
Then, in Tuesday's semi-final victory over South Portland / Waynflete / Freeport, Daxton scored and Drew assisted a goal.
There is one game left for the brothers to all record one point in the same game, and although the trio obviously want this to happen, there is a bigger goal to reach on Saturday.

"We will try to do it, but also do our job. Help the team, "said Daxton.
"When you get to that point, it's more like putting the puck in the back of the net," said Drew. "No matter how it goes, or who marks it, you just want to achieve that goal."
A state championship would mean a rare accomplishment for the St. Hilaires, beyond the three brothers. Their cousins, the Camree and Bailee sisters, won the State Women's Hockey Championship for Lewiston a few weeks ago. Even having a chance for parents who play hockey to win all the titles in the same season was never considered when they were all growing up next to each other. , but now the pressure is fun.
"They were kind of like," If you don't win … "," said Daxton.
"Bailee is their age, Camree is my age, so they're a little closer to Bailee and I'm closer to Cam," said Drew. "But (Camree) texted me, she says," You must be okay or you're going to hear from me. ""
"Five people winning state championships would be pretty cool," said Cooper.
Now Saturday just has to come here. The brothers say waiting for the title match has been difficult since Tuesday's semi-final victory.
"You don't really want to do much except play in this game," said Daxton.
"You just sit in class and think of scenarios," said Drew. "You get all nervous and it's like," OK, when is he coming? "This week has flown, last week has flown."
Drew said it would be a bittersweet match for him, being his last high school game, and a far too quick end to his only playing season alongside his brothers.
"Win or lose, you always have to cherish the moment, whatever happens in this match," he said.
