Scotland woke up to shaking homes last night when a terrifying 3.1-magnitude earthquake rocked the country.

Stunned residents reported the unrest on social media just before 2 a.m. on Tuesday.

A 3.1-magnitude earthquake rocked Scotland last night

The epicenter is believed to be near Greenock, Inverclyde, and is believed to have a magnitude of 3.1 on the Richter scale.

Residents nearby said their homes shook during the quake.

Someone said, “Nothing shakes you like an earthquake. This is the biggest earthquake I’ve ever felt. The whole house shook.”

They added, “I’m on Tarbert Argyle. I’ve never felt one this big, everything in my room shook.”

Another person wrote: “The Argyll earthquake was about 7 km from Lochgilphead and was felt widely across Argyllshire.”

The US Geological Survey said the quake occurred at a depth of 10 km and had a magnitude of 3.1.

He is said to have struck at 1.44 a.m. 11 miles northwest of Lochgilphead, as homes shook.

The latest earthquake in the UK comes a month after the one that was felt in North Wales.

People in Snowdonia heard a “big rattling sound” on Sunday, confirmed to be a small earthquake of 1.0 on the Richter scale.

It was recorded at a depth of 6 km with the epicenter as “3 km north-northeast of Dolgarog village, Konoy”.

According to the British Geological Survey, between 200 and 300 earthquakes are detected each year in the UK.

Earthquakes that occur on the mainland with a magnitude of between 3 and 3.9 occur on average every three years.
