For the first time in club history, Nashville SC (3W-2L-1D, 10 points) is California bound.

The Boys with Gold heads to San Jose for a nationally televised game against the San Jose Earthquakes (0W-4L-2D, 2 points) on Saturday afternoon.

Nashville is currently running a two-game winning streak with a 2-1 win over Sporting Kansas City. The team will be looking to score more points ahead of their May 1 opening home game against Philadelphia Union.

Extended Road Trip Home – Saturday’s game will be the penultimate game of an eight-game road swing for Nashville. With 10 points on hand through six games, Nashville sits just three points off the top spot in the Western Conference.

Head coach Gary Smith says the team is feeling confident and in good shape just two weeks before the opening game kicks off at Geodes Park on May 1.

“If you look at our performance over the weekend as one example, it was a very open game that day,” Smith said. “It’s the kind of game we like to play [GEODIS Park]And you have to be in the right mindset for that. We’re in a good position, but I don’t think anyone is saying we’ve done enough by any means. Every point you can add to the board will help in that process towards the post-season period and be in a good position to try and win titles.”

Build, Create, Create – The Gold Boys had their strongest offensive production of 2022 last Saturday at Sporting Kansas City. The team hit 19 shots, of which six were on goal. Nashville’s projected total goals (xG) were up to 2.84, compared to 1.16 for Sporting Kansas City, according to FotMob.

On top of those chances, Nashville scored two goals playing set pieces. Defender Dave Romney, who scored the equalizer and started the set pieces that led to the second goal, said the chance to create the team gave them the confidence to come back from behind in the game.

“It was nice to score from two set pieces,” Romney said. “We created a bunch of other chances that we weren’t lucky enough to score, but I think we kept possession well. We created a lot of chances. The attacking trio did really well. We felt a lot more balanced than we did last week. We knew that. Kind of in the first half. We were pretty sure we could get back into the game and win, even though we were down 1-0.”

Earthquake Detection – This will be Nashville’s first ever meeting with earthquakes. The Quakes, the original MLS champion and two-time MLS Cup champion, entered this match with two draws and have yet to win this season. Last week, the Earthquakes put on a gritty performance at the Houston Dynamo FC, taking a 2-1 lead before losing 4-3 on the road.
