Deputy U.S. Marshal, one of four officers killed on warrant in Charlotte, North Carolina

WASHINGTON A deputy marshal assigned to the Western District of North Carolina and supporting the Carolina Regional Fugitive Task Force was one of four officers killed April 29 while the task force attempted to execute a warrant. arrest of a fugitive in Charlotte, North Carolina.

Thomas M. Weeks Jr., 48, of Mooresville, North Carolina, died in the line of duty around 1:30 p.m. on April 29 when the suspect opened fire on the group of officers assigned to the law enforcement, killing Weeks and three others. Several other police officers were injured.

Weeks was a 13-year veteran of the U.S. Marshals Service (USMS), serving in the Western District of North Carolina for the past 10 years. He was part of the team executing an arrest warrant for Terry Clark Hughes Jr., 39, wanted for possession of a firearm by a felon in Lincoln County.

Charlotte-Mecklenburg police are investigating.

Weeks began his USMS career in February 2011 in the Superior Court of the District of Columbia in Washington, DC. He was transferred in November 2014 to Charlotte, North Carolina. Before joining the USMS, he spent eight years in Customs and Border Protection.

He leaves behind a wife and four children.
