Kirkland Earthquake Training: Cascadia Rising’s Search for Volunteers

KIRKLAND, WA – The Kirkland Office of Emergency Management is looking for volunteers to help the city participate in “Cascadia Rising,” an area-wide exercise to help community members and first responders prepare for the aftermath of a major earthquake.

This year’s exercises include rehearsals at Lake Totum and North Juanita next week, and volunteers will receive a free emergency preparedness kit as a thank you step.

Here are the times when volunteers are needed in Kirkland:

June 14, 2022: Volunteers had to pass through a mock supply distribution point in Lake Totem so that staff could practice delivering supplies in the event of a disaster.

Residents can sign up for help by following this link, going to the Emergency Preparedness section and choosing the time and day. Kirkland’s portion of the exercise is part of the state’s broader engagement, led by the Washington Department of Emergency Management.

Residents who can’t participate directly next week can still learn more about preparing for natural disasters of all kinds, compiling an action plan and building a toolkit on the official Kirkland website.
