Japan deploys military after deadly typhus – BBC News

Japan has deployed tens of thousands of soldiers and rescue workers in the years after one of the toughest storms, killing at least 18 people.

Typhoon Hagibis landed in southern Tokyo on Saturday, heading north and causing severe flooding.

Thirteen people are missing due to the storm, NHK public broadcaster said.

In central Nagano Prefecture, the water circled the famous Japanese bullet train as helicopters rattled off rooftop neighbors.

27,000 military and other rescue crews have been deployed in relief operations, authorities said.
