Earthquakes end LAFC winning streak with surprise victory

Kid Coyle scored the tiebreaker as he stunned the San Jose Earthquakes to visit Los Angeles FC 2-1 on Saturday night.

San Jose’s victory ended LAFC’s seven-game winning streak.

Coyle’s decisive goal came in the 77th minute. Tommy Thompson fired the ball and Cowell was close to the net and fired a right-footed shot past LAFC goalkeeper Maxime Crepeau to score his second goal of the season.

Benjamin Kikanovic also scored, and both Thompson and Christian Espinosa provided assists, as Earthquakes (6-11-9, 27 points) halted a six-game winning streak (0-4-2). This is San Jose’s first victory since their 3-2 win over LA Galaxy on July 13.

Kwadwo Opoko scored for Los Angeles FC (18-5-3, 57 points), which still has the best record in the league.
