Building Up Nepal Engineering, which has been supporting reconstruction in the earthquake-stricken areas, has won the prestigious Ashden Environment Award and UN STI Awards for providing environmentally friendly and disaster-resistant building technology in the country.

The team introduced CSEB, a cheaper and stronger alternative to oven baked bricks that also helps reduce emissions and air pollution.

CSEB is made of sand, clay and mixed cement in a ratio of 5: 4: 1. Using locally available materials, the construction cost is reduced by 25%.

The interlocking capacity of pressed blocks, when reinforced with iron bars, can make structures earthquake-resistant, so that it is an ideal building technology for Nepal.
