Jury finds Trump sexually assaulted writer at New York department store – BBC News

A New York jury has found that Donald Trump sexually abused magazine writer E. Jean Carroll in the 1990s and then defamed her by calling her a liar. The former president has been ordered to pay 5 million dollars in damages. Carroll testified in a civil trial that Donald Trump raped her in a New York department store locker room and later dismissed her claims as “fraud” and “lies.” In a statement after the jury’s verdict, Ms Carroll said: “Today the world finally knows the truth. This victory is not just for me, but for every woman who has suffered because they were not believed.” Mr Trump’s lawyer said he would appeal the decision. Donald Trump called the verdict “disgraceful” in a post on the Truth Social platform, adding: “I don’t know who this woman is.” Because it was a civil case, Mr. Trump has not faced criminal consequences.
