A Brooklyn school gym was deemed unsafe after Friday's earthquake, officials said.

According to the city Department of Buildings, on Friday they conducted a structural stability inspection at 370 Fountain Street after receiving reports of cracks inside.

Inspectors found step cracks and vertical cracks in the interior masonry walls of the school gym, which is why it was determined that brick located near the cracks could pose a safety issue, the DOB said. Due to these safety concerns, it was decided to evacuate the gym until repairs were completed.

Inspectors found no further areas of concern elsewhere in the school – ultimately leading to the determination that the rest of the school remained occupied.

Friday's 4.8-magnitude earthquake shook the tri-state area, an area where seismic activity is not common. In the wake of the quake, the department received about 80 reports of quake-related damage, most of them coming from Manhattan and the Bronx, the DOB said. Inspectors went to all sites to investigate and did not find any major damage or collapses. They found cracks in the walls in a few locations.

Additionally, out of an abundance of caution, the Department of Defense added additional engineering and inspection staff over this weekend to respond to any new reports of building damage.

According to DOB ​​Commissioner Jimmy Oddo, potential damage could be discovered in the coming days or weeks, so it is important to remain vigilant and report any damage.
