In Beirut’s “zero point”, he raced to find survivors

He said that some of the smaller initial explosions at the port may have prompted staff to flee the room.

Andrea explained that “the four bodies that we discovered in the search area … were found next to a safe exit staircase at the feet of the silos.”

Thousands of tons of corn, wheat and barley scattered from silos fell as a result of the explosion, parking lots and docks.

Unrecognizable ponds lulled in calm, usually bustling traffic, workers and merchants.

Rescuers stood silently over a hole in the ground as a sniffing dog walked around a jungle of worn containers that had been thrown around the harbor like sugar cubes.

The goods flowing from them gave a sample of the goods that just entered the country: textbooks in French, luxury handbags, and boxes for imported beer.

Three Red Cross volunteers looked stunned as they walked around the site of the blast and stopped at the waterfront to stare at their destroyed city.

“He looks very calm, but he is calm. Something in this city is dead and he will not rise again,” said one of them standing with his arms Akimbo and lost his gaze at the damage that preceded him.

The only sounds were the sounds of massive excavators that smashed a path through the rubble, rotary saws cut iron bars and crushers that smashed concrete blocks into smaller pieces.

This means that the growing fleet of converging heavy machinery at Beirut Port on Friday had to dig in solid piles of debris before it reached any burial beneath it.

“When it comes to the actual center of influence, it is quite reminiscent of” Ground Zero “on September 11,” Andrea said of the 2001 US attacks on the Twin Towers.

“The scale of the damage will also be remembered by some of our team members in the 2010 earthquake in Haiti,” he said.

“The difference here is that it is not an earthquake. Humans have done this.”
