Miranda and the Beat – “Earthquake Waters”

New York rock band Miranda and the Beat will return with a new album this fall through Ernest Jenning Record Co.

Prior to the album's release, the band shared a preview of the album with a single titled “Earthquake Water.” The song was inspired by a funny childhood anecdote from band member Miranda Zipes. It's old school, hard-hitting, gritty punk rock with some raw garage punk elements that sound like the kind you'd see in a New York City grunge scene in the 1970s.

Speaking about the song's background, Miranda recalls:

“When I was a kid, my dad would hide an ‘earthquake supply’ in the garage in case of emergency. Large tubs of beans, rice, and jugs of water were lined up in the garage in preparation for the impending collapse of society. As a kid, I wasn’t allowed to play music in the house, so the old, ramshackle garage seemed like a great place to play guitar. One day, feeling thirsty after writing one of my first songs that became a worldwide hit, I noticed that one of the emergency jugs was half empty, and thought it would be safe to drink myself. To the disgust (delight?) of my 12-year-old son, I promptly spat out the contents of the jug, which was actually filled with vodka instead of water. It turned out that there was a whole scheme in motion to hide gallons of liquor in the garage to keep us sober and years of Alcoholics Anonymous meetings going. Thus, the term ‘earthquake water’ was born, a common family joke to this day.”
