2:00 PM ET – Transparency Venezuela launches public platform to track earthquake aid

Transparency Venezuela has launched RutaDeAyuda.org, a public platform designed to track humanitarian aid sent to Venezuela in the wake of the June 24 earthquakes and promote transparency as the country recovers.

According to Executive Director Mercedes de Freitas, the platform has already documented $694 million in aid from 37 countries, 68 organizations, 10 companies, and 10 individual donors. The site includes an interactive map of donations, open data, and accountability tools, and allows users to submit additional verified aid records.

De Freitas said that reconstruction efforts must be guided by transparency, independent oversight and public accountability, considering that donors and citizens have the right to know how humanitarian resources are managed.

1:30 PM ET – UN launches $296 million emergency appeal for Venezuela earthquake response

The United Nations launched an urgent appeal to raise $296 million to help 1.3 million people affected by the earthquakes that struck Venezuela on June 24 over the next six months.

During a virtual meeting with Venezuelan officials, UN Emergency Relief Coordinator Tom Fletcher said international donors have already begun to respond, but stressed that more funding is needed to meet urgent humanitarian needs.

Fletcher also called for the release of Venezuelan state assets frozen abroad to support reconstruction efforts. The United Nations warned that the earthquakes had greatly exacerbated the already severe humanitarian crisis, noting that 7.9 million people in Venezuela were already in need of humanitarian aid before the disaster struck.

12:30 PM ET – Dog rescued alive after 12 days in earthquake rubble in La Guaira

A dog named Draco was rescued alive on Monday after spending 12 days trapped under the rubble of a collapsed building in Caraballeda, La Guaira.

A faint bark led the family members and rescue teams to Draco’s location. Volunteer rescuer Jayer crawled into the unstable wreckage to get the dog to safety.

After his rescue, Draco was settled in a temporary veterinary clinic in Carabaleda before being transferred to the La Trinidad Veterinary Center in Caracas, where vets say he remains under observation and receiving specialist care.

The dog’s rescue has become one of the few moments of hope amid ongoing recovery efforts.

12:00 PM ET – Experts warn that dumping earthquake debris into the sea could cause long-term environmental damage

Environmental experts warn that using the Caribbean Sea as a dumping site for earthquake debris could have lasting consequences for La Guaira’s marine ecosystem, fisheries and coastline.

Concrete, gypsum, metals, paints and other building materials can alter water quality, suffocate coral reefs, pollute marine life, and disrupt fish migration, specialists told Efecto Cocuyo. They claim that the debris should instead be sorted, recycled and stored in temporary collection sites, in accordance with international disaster management standards.

Experts also noted that Venezuela is a signatory to international agreements prohibiting the dumping of waste at sea, and warned that the country lacks a specific legal framework for managing earthquake debris.

11:45 a.m. ET – Analysis: Report says earthquake response exposed limits of Delcy Rodriguez’s crisis management

An analysis published by TalCual says the June 24 earthquakes exposed the limits of the interim government led by Delcy Rodriguez, arguing that official communications often took precedence over crisis management.

The report says Rodriguez made only short visits to disaster sites while much of the government’s public messaging focused on highly produced videos and official narratives. The report also notes criticism of the initial lack of visible military deployment during the crucial first days after the disaster, and highlights ongoing concerns about transparency and access to information.

Citing recent polls, the analysis says public approval of the government’s response has declined sharply, while confidence in volunteers, firefighters, healthcare workers, NGOs, churches and private organizations has increased as they continue to lead much of the humanitarian response on the ground.

11:00 AM ET – Maria Corina Machado says she’s still in touch with the Trump administration after the earthquakes

Opposition leader Maria Corina Machado said she remains in regular contact with the Trump administration, and thanked the United States and other countries for their humanitarian response in the wake of the devastating earthquakes that struck Venezuela.

Speaking with N+ Univision 24/7, Machado said international aid was crucial at a time when the country is facing one of the worst disasters in its history.

It also criticized the government’s initial response, arguing that the first hours after the earthquakes were marked by a lack of official rescue efforts, and reaffirmed its intention to return to Venezuela to support the country’s recovery.

10:00 AM ET – Venezuela opens emergency cemetery as earthquake death toll continues to rise

Authorities opened an emergency cemetery about an hour away from La Guaira to bury victims of the June 24 earthquakes, as the official death toll exceeded 3,500 people.

Officials say nearly 300 bodies remain unidentified. Each burial is carried out individually, with graves marked with a white cross and an identification symbol to allow for future identification.

Heavy machinery continues to dig new burial areas while refrigerated trucks transport victims from the disaster area.

9:00 AM ET – Venezuela earthquake death toll rises to 3,685

Venezuela’s official death toll from the June 24 earthquakes has risen to 3,685, an increase of 150 deaths since the previous update. The number of infected people remains at 16,740, according to government officials.

Authorities said 6,462 people were rescued alive, while 17,907 people lost their homes. The government expanded its emergency shelter network to include 87 temporary camps, and reported 856 buildings damaged and 190 collapsed.

Questions remain about the number of missing people. While the official number of missing persons announced by the government has remained unchanged since June 25, the citizen-run registry indicates that there are more than 30,000 people whose whereabouts have not yet been confirmed.
