Ok, I woke up with a smile on my face and a joke in my head. Sorry, I can’t help it. I was born minutes before April 1, the Day of the Fool. Humor is embedded in my soul, even as my Calvinist ancestors were drawing ways to take me seriously.
When my mother confessed to me that I would not be born on the first day of April, I complained saying that I knew I should have been born that day, that I was really an April fool, and that I would probably remain that way. for days I was on guard because I told her that my destiny was a fool, a kind of karmic destiny to see the nonsense of life.
The truth is, I don’t like pretentious snobs who criticize only others and are seriously serious. Show me a person who can’t laugh at a good joke or tell it, and I’ll show you someone that people avoid at parties.
I think hell is reserved for people who can’t laugh. I think they will be thrown into the fire pit of serious people and forced all eternity to make any of them laugh.
