Health Director on COVID Spike: ‘We’re heading in the wrong direction’

In an update to the Select Board Tuesday night, Health Director Sean McAuliffe said the city currently has 10 cases of COVID-19, with two more cases expected on Wednesday. The number, at zero a month ago, rose to 14 on Tuesday, then fell to five a few days later, before the last jump.

Eversource presents new Ashland pipeline replacement presentation: Easement Agreements with all landlords

When town officials learned this summer that a land court judge had ruled in their favor in the Eversource Energy plan to replace an old transmission line running through Hopkinton and Ashland, they were elated. The disagreement was over whether the company could legally leave a 6-inch pipeline that was decommissioned in the 1950s as it installed a new 12-inch pipeline next to it.

Define a briefing on the Board of Directors: HPD welcomes two new officers; Library to add assistant

At a select board meeting on Tuesday, Brittany Firth and Nathan Wright were confirmed as police officers in Hopkinson after they completed their training at the Police Academy on October 22. They are tentatively approved at a board meeting set for January 31.

Firth worked as a part-time dispatcher at Hopkinson for nearly three years. In the fall of 2019, I began working full time as a dispatcher for the Ashland Fire Department. She is a Spring 2019 graduate of the Honors Program at Framingham State University with a BA in Criminology and a minor in Psychology.

ZAC discusses solar trade restrictions strategy in the city

Monday night’s zoning advisory committee meeting focused on the city’s solar bylaws and strategies that ZAC could use to develop a more comprehensive plan to reduce solar arrays installed on the ground.

Concerns about lawsuits were a dominant topic throughout the discussion. The city actually lost a lawsuit two years ago after the Planning Board rejected a solar farm off Wilson Street. The city is currently being sued by two residents after the Planning Council granted special permission to a company to build a solar array in the woods off Frankland Road (formerly Liberty Mutual Property).

Members of the Hopkinson community present the “Hopkinson Freedom Team”

In July of 2020, a group of members of the Hopkinson community joined together to create the Hopkinson Freedom Team, whose mission is to “preserve freedom through unity in society.” Its members meet regularly to explore ways to provide dialogue and support to individuals or groups who experience prejudice, harassment, or micro-aggressions, with the aim of promoting love, inclusion and trust (“LIT”) and moving beyond tolerance to embracing and celebrating, and sharing the diversity of our society.

Hopkinton Department of South Asia is planning events that prioritize unity and communication

The Hopkinson campaign starts to light up as the lights show kicks off in Town Common from November 13 to December 11, centered around messages of open communication and unity. A large banner of colorful floods and LED lights will display the words illuminating Hopkinson as one.

What do you know about the earthquake that struck Massachusetts on Sunday

The earthquake occurred at a depth of just over 9.3 miles and was felt by people across Massachusetts, Rhode Island, Connecticut and Long Island, New York.

About 14,000 people went to the U.S. Geological Survey to report the earthquake, including people from Easthampton, Massachusetts, and Hartford, Connecticut, both about 100 miles away, and several over 50 miles away. Caruso said this is not unusual in New England.

6:10 p.m. Approval of the agenda minutes – The select Board of Directors will consider approving the minutes of the 10/20/20 meeting. Change of Director, Woodville Road & Gun Club, Wood Street – Select Board will consider agreeing to change Director of Woodville Road & John Club, to Karen Rimillard. 2021 Seasonal Population Estimation – The Selection Board will consider approving the 2021 seasonal population estimate of 15,048 to ABCC.iv. Ambulance Box Gift – The Select Board will consider accepting a gift of US $ 50.00 to the Ambulance Box in memory of Joseph L Donovan, from Richard and Janet Stewart, Hopkinton. Library Gift – Select Board will consider accepting a $ 100 library gift from Hopkinson Women’s Club.

The selected council approved the items of the first, second, fourth, and fifth approval agenda (5-0). The selected council approved the 2021 seasonal population estimate. (5-0)

6:30 p.m. Police Officer Appointments – The Selection Board will consider appointing Brittany Firth and Nathan Wright as police officers in Hopkinson.

The Board Selection Board approved the appointment of a Senior Library Assistant. (0-5) The Select Board waived issuance fees for 2021 to renew licenses for restaurants, bars and clubs. (5-0)

7:00 PM Public Hearings Posted – Two Requests for New Utility Pillars – VERIZON & EVERSOURCE: The Select Board will hold two public hearings on the two separate petitions for new utility poles, submitted by Verizon & Eversource, as follows: i. East Street – One new pole on the southeast side of East Street approximately 614 feet northeast of the Clinton Street midfield. The new pole will be a mid span pole to lift very low cables between two existing electrodes. Wood Street – Two new columns on the southwest side of Wood St: 1) about 105 feet northwest from the Patriots Avenue center line, and 2) about 411 feet northwest from the Patriots Boulevard centerline. Both poles support / serve the new Whisper Way division.

The Select Board approved the new pole on East Street as required, with conditions not to construct new double poles and remove the existing damaged pole. (5-0) The Select Board approved the new poles on Wood Street as required, on the condition that no new double poles be constructed and any existing damaged poles removed.
