As Tom’s Hardware reported, last week’s earthquake in Taiwan affected the production lines of AU Optronics (AUO), a leading manufacturer of LCD panels. Company president Paul Bing said (via DigiTimes) that it took “at least a few hours” to restart production lines, which resulted in some production losses – although he never said how much.

TrendForce reports that foundries and memory makers in Taiwan acted quickly to pause operations when the earthquake started, and restarted business once it was over. No damage has been reported to their buildings or equipment.

The earthquake exacerbated component supply problems in the display industry that is already grappling with the effects of a blackout in Takatsuki, Japan. The five-hour accident on November 10 affected the Shiga-Takatsuki plant of Nippon Electric Glass (NEG), which manufactures glass substrates for flat panel displays. The company says some equipment was damaged during the outage.
