Canada announces 2.5 million HRK in aid in response to the earthquake in Croatia

Zagreb, January 5, 2021 – Canadian Foreign Minister Francois Philippe Champaign today announced financial support for the emergency and recovery efforts in Croatia, following the recent devastating earthquake that measured 6.4 on the Richter scale.

The Canadian government will pay nearly 2.5 million crowns (500,000 Canadian dollars) to the Canadian Red Cross to support the activities of the Croatian Red Cross in helping earthquake-affected areas.

The Government of Canada will continue to work closely with the Canadian Red Cross and the Government of the Republic of Croatia to assess the situation and coordinate the response.

This announcement indicates a strong bilateral relationship between Canada and Croatia, with the help of the Canadian-Croatian community active in cities across Canada, which has also raised funds to support Croatia in these difficult times.
