An international ice skater is accused of having sex with a 14-year-old in Lee County

By order of Lee County Sheriff’s Office, 20-year-old Dane Ayers and the victim met at the Hertz Arena in Estero last September. Documents say he asked her if she wanted a relationship, and that was when they started having sex at his Tesla.

People in the Estero Community are uncomfortable hearing this new information.

“Extremely upset,” said Lily Lehaye of Estero. “Benefiting people and things like that is a common thing.”

“It makes me sick. “Absolutely sick,” said Jeremy Urban of Flagler County.

The order states that the victim told investigators that sexual encounters also took place at Miromar Outlet Mall and in Turkey. Documents also say the relationship lasted until December last year when Ayers returned to Arizona.

Also in the order, it is said that Ayers asked the victim not to tell anyone because he knew it was illegal.

“It simply came to my notice then. People need to stop normalizing these things. “It must stop happening in our communities,” Urban added.

The order also says the victim eventually told an adviser about her relationship with Ayers.

“It’s actually troubling to me,” Urban said.

Urban also believes Ayers’ skating career should end. “I don’t think he should be skating on ice anymore,” he said.

On July 9, 2020, the American Center for SafeSport temporarily suspended Dane Ayers.
