Georgian University Demands Complete Vaccination of COVID-19 for Campus Residential Students-Barry
Students living in Georgian College campus residences in Barry, Orillia, and Owen Sound this fall will need to be fully vaccinated. COVID-19 (New Coronavirus Infection)..
By August 18, students must first receive the Health Canada-approved COVID-19 vaccine and must receive a second dose by October 8.
The university said it was working with the Simcomuskoka District Health Unit to host an on-site immune clinic at Barry’s residence in September.
“We made this decision with student safety in mind,” Brian Muscat, Dean of Student Studies at Georgian University, said in a statement.
“The dwelling is a dense environment, with some common spaces and students spend a lot of time together. Vaccination is important to reduce the spread of this virus in close proximity.”
Students planning to live in a campus residence will receive direct communication, including how to submit a vaccination certificate. There is a tax exemption process for students with medical conditions that prevent them from getting immunity, or for other protected reasons under the Ontario Human Rights Code.

“We have been encouraging vaccination since spring as an important factor for the Georgian community to come together for more face-to-face activities,” Muscat said.
Georgian University has joined the ever-growing list of universities in Ontario that require students living in their place of residence to be fully vaccinated with COVID-19.
