European health boss warns about second wave of virus

On Thursday, a representative of the European Health Advisory Council on Infections warned of a second wave of coronavirus as countries across the continent eased tight closure measures.

Andrea Ammon, director of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention in Europe, said it doesn’t matter if there’s a new surge, not “when and how big.”

She told the British Guardian that immunostatistics across Europe were not encouraged and that “85% to 90%” of people were still susceptible to COVID-19.

“The virus is around us and is much more prevalent than in January or February,” she said in an interview.

“I don’t want to draw the doomsday picture, but I think we need to be realistic. It’s not time to completely relax.”

According to AFP, Thursday’s 1230 GMT caused more than 170,000 deaths in Europe’s global pandemics. Most live in England, Italy, Spain and France.

However, the restrictions on staying at home, which was established to prevent the spread of the virus, are beginning to be lifted, suggesting that the number of cases has exceeded the peak.

The Sweden-based ECDC advises the government on infectious disease control in 27 EU countries, as well as Iceland, Norway, Liechtenstein and the United Kingdom.

According to Ammon, blockade restrictions are causing “tension” and are damaging to those unfamiliar with reducing business and people’s freedom.
