If you need a baby, stop taking painkillers, gynecologist alerts woman – Daily Trust
Consultant obstetrician and gynecologist Dr. Abose de Lewu advises young women to stop the abuse or consistent use of nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs), also known as analgesics to prevent infertility. I urged you.
Monadi’s Rev, Convener, Keep All Mothers Alive (KAMA) project told Nigeria News Agency (NAN) that continued use of NSAIDs negatively impacts women’s menstrual cycle and ovulation.
“Nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) are also involved in infertility.
“Consistent use or abuse of these drugs prevents ovulation and reduced progesterone levels in young women.”

She described NSAIDs or analgesics as members of a drug class that reduces pain, reduces fever, prevents clots, and reduces inflammation at high doses.
“It prevents the follicle from breaking and releasing the egg. If the egg is not released, nothing is fertilized by the sperm.
“Analgesics primarily work by blocking certain pathways.
“This pathway is required to achieve ovulation when blocked. Ripe follicles may not ovulate, causing luteinized unruptured follicles (LUFs) or other mild dysfunction.” She said.
Lewu said consistent use of NSAIDs or analgesics is not recommended among women trying to conceive.
She urged young women to consult with their doctor about appropriate prescribing, timing, and restrictions before using painkillers.
“People who have been using painkillers for a few days for menstrual pain have a very short cycle because they have already ovulated before that period.
“NSAIDs should not affect menstruation, ovulation, or fertility.
“People who consistently use NSAIDs for other medical conditions have an increased risk of treating the underlying cause.
“They need to find alternatives and cures.
“There are other groups of analgesics that can be used instead of NSAIDs.
“If you use an NSAID, you need to prescribe it, limit the time, and limit it.
“So stop the abuse of NSAIDs,” she warned.
Gynecologists also advised that when a woman experiences problems with ovulation, abnormal menstruation, or infertility, there are other causes besides pain medications.
“Ps can’t assume that it’s NSAIDs only if they have problems with ovulation or menstrual dysfunction and infertility. Consult an expert,” she advised.
