Health Minister Approves Fifth Covid-19 Vaccine
Health Minister Stephen Donnelly today accepted the recommendation to introduce the new Covid-19 vaccine.
Nuvaxovid’s Covid-19 vaccine Nuvaxovid (also known as NVX-CoV2373) is conditionally licensed by the European Medicines Agency for use in people over the age of 18.
As Ireland’s fifth vaccine, recommendations for its use were submitted to Chief Medical Officer Tony Holohan after approving the views of the National Immunological Advisory Board (NIAC).
Minister Donnelly said the development was welcomed by Ireland’s additional vaccination program.
“This is a welcome addition to the vaccination program as it provides another option for unvaccinated or partially vaccinated adults.
“This particular vaccine Nuvaxovid is a peplomer-based vaccine and is the first Covid approved based on the vaccines used in existing vaccines we are familiar with, such as hepatitis B and whooping cough. 19 vaccines.
