Minimized spread level of COVID-19 community in Gregg County | COVID-19

A new case of COVID-19 in Gregg County slowed slightly due to a minimal reduction in the level of community spread of the virus on Monday.

The Northeast Texas Public Health District on Monday reported that there have been 22 new total cases in the county since Thursday. Of these, 3 have been identified and 19 are possible. That number is just over one-third of the 66 new total cases reported Thursday.

Although active cases of the virus in Gregg County increased slightly, the spread level of the county community moved to a minimum after hovering at moderately low levels over the past two weeks.

The 7-day rolling rate for new COVID-19 cases in Gregg County went from 11.52 on Thursday to 9.91 on Monday. The rolling rate determines the level of community spread.

Medium community spread is indicated by a 7-day rolling rate of more than 10 and less than 35. According to NETHealth, this level indicates a persistent infection with confirmed exposure within the aggregate setting.

According to NET Health, evidence of minimal community expansion, or isolated cases or limited community communication, is a 7-day rolling rate of 10 or less.

Greg on Monday had the second highest 7-day rolling rate of the seven counties that NET Health provides disease surveillance. Anderson County was the highest at 10.63. Wood County had a minimum rate of 2.82.

Active cases of COVID-19 in Gregg County were 1,185 on Monday, a slight increase from 1,164 on Thursday.

According to the Texas Department of Health, 662 COVID-19s have died in Gregg County since the pandemic began. The number of deaths reported by the state has not changed since February 25.

NET Health reported on Monday that there were 47 patients being treated for COVID-19 at Tyler Hospital. That number reached a pandemic high of 389 in September.

According to state data, there were 99 COVID-19 patients on Sunday in Trauma Region G, 19 counties in the state, including Longview and Tyler. Last Sunday, there were 146 patients in the area. That number hasn’t fallen below 100 since December.

In Smith County, NET Health on Monday reported a total of 25 new cases of the virus in the population since Thursday.

Harrison County Judge Chadsims reported an increase in the number of cases of county residents on Monday.

According to The Sims, there were 157 new cases last week. Last week there were 120 people. The average number of new cases increased from 17 last week to 22 last week. According to The Sims, one new death from COVID-19 in Harrison County was reported last week.

“These numbers are still relatively small, but they should remind us to be careful,” Sims said in a post on his Facebook page.
