A veterinarian’s report details incomplete vaccination at a facility in Colorado where 94 horses died.

The Land Administration suspects that the equine influenza virus H3N8, a common virus in wild and domestic horses, has caused the deaths of 94 horses in Kanon City’s detention center since April 23.

According to Steven Holl, a spokesperson for BLM Colorado, West Douglas horses were captured in early August 2021 and needed to be vaccinated shortly thereafter.

According to a news release on Thursday, 95 horses died of the disease, but the death of the foal on April 18 is considered irrelevant. As of Friday, April 29, Hall said there had been no additional deaths since Thursday.
