Burger King employee COVID-19-related death filed complaint
After the death of a Santa Monica-Burger King employee, a colleague filed a complaint with the county and state regarding the lack of COVID-19 safety measures at work.
A colleague of Angela Martinez Gomez, who died on July 6, says she has allowed her to work while demonstrating COVID-19 weeks before her death.
According to the complaint, Martinez left work to return home early on June 29 after being allowed to work for a week at Burger King at Block 1900 in Pico Boulevard. Cold medicine at work. Garcia and another employee, Mariella, developed COVID-19 symptoms. The complaint alleges that Mariella was told to continue working even when the temperature was high. Burger King wrote in a statement, “We are deeply saddened by the death of Angela Martinez Gomez.” The restaurant has announced a general cleaning of the store and those who have contacted Martinez are instructed to quarantine.
Garcia wrote in this complaint: “I’m worried about my health and my family’s health. We have eight of us living together, and my brother and I are both diabetic… I visited my grandson last week, but now I don’t know if I have COVID-19 or gave them.”
The LA County Public Prosecutor’s Office of the Necropsy confirmed the death of Angela Martinez Gomez on Monday, July 6, but the cause of death has not been identified, nor has Gomez had COVID-19.
