Oklahoma City (AP) — Kevin Stitt, Oklahoma Governor, the first Governor of the country to be positive for coronaviruses, said Tuesday that he has donated plasma to help other viral patients recover.
The Republican Governor said in a statement, Mr. Stitt said he recently made a donation at the Center for the Oklahoma Blood Institute in Enid.
“The easiest way for Oklahoma people who have recovered from COVID-19 to help their friends and neighbors is to donate convalescent plasma.”
Convalescent plasma is being studied as a potential treatment or preventative measure for the virus, reported in Oklahoma as of Tuesday, which infected 44,728 people and killed 618 people. The true number of cases of Oklahoma is probably higher because many people have not been tested, and research suggests that people are infected and not feeling unwell.
In July, Stitt said he had been infected by a virus and quarantined for two weeks.
Tulsa County Commissioner Karenkees is also infected with the virus, and she says she also donated plasma.
