Significant COVID-19 rates found in Austin school-age children
Dr. Marc Escott said the age group between 10 and 19 recently showed “significant positive rates.”

With the new school year approaching, Austin’s health authorities continue to see specific statistics on the positive rate of Austin’s 10-19 age group as a point of concern.
Dr. Mark Escott, Interim Health Department, Austin On August 11, he told a member of the Travis County that the age groups 10 to 19 had a “significant positive rate” in recent weeks. In the week from July 19th to July 25th, the positive rate of the group aged 10-19 was over 20%, the highest among all groups. From July 26 to August 1, Escott said that school-aged teenagers had the second highest prevalence rate.
“We see that the age group has had a significant positive rate throughout this pandemic, which dates back to the end of June.”
According to Escott, the age group of 10-19 years accounted for 7.5% of all COVID-19 cases in Austin from August 4th to August 10th.
Although the number of coronaviruses in Austin is declining slightly, Escott continues its slogan of being cautious about restarting school. Escott stressed that parents should understand that their child may be ill and may become infected.
