All complications that pop up from the flu this season are at risk
Cincinnati (WKRC) – Health officials are warning of serious complications from the flu virus this year. It is classified as “high severity” influenza season by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).
Healthcare providers have encountered complications they have never seen in years.
“We've seen a lot of trouble with our children,” said Dr. Felicia Skaggs Fan, of the Medical Center at Cincinnati Children's Hospital.
“This year we've seen a rare complication called acute necrotizing encephalitis.”
Acute necrotizing encephalitis (ANE) is a severe encephalopathy that can lead to permanent damage. Dr. Scaggs Huang explained what this can do to a person's health.
