New South Wales Coronavirus Cases Increasing 7 Cases, Prime Minister Gladys Brezikrian Says “Worried” About Number
NSW health officials remain “anxious” despite a drop in the number of new coronavirus infections after the testing rate dropped to a minimum over the past month or more.
A total of 10,806 people were tested 24 hours by 8 pm yesterday. The lowest number since July 12th.
Kelly Chant, chief health officer of NSW, said some people were symptomatic because they thought they had the flu.
“The flu epidemic is very low,” she said.
“So if you have respiratory symptoms such as symptoms, cough, fever, sore throat, runny nose, headache, and pain, it’s likely to be COVID, not flu.”
Of the seven newly identified cases, six were locally infected and one was a hotel quarantine traveler.
Three of the local lawsuits involved a cluster of Chopstix Asian Cuisine restaurants at Smithfield RSL and one was a security contractor at the Parramatta District Court in western Sydney.
The two were associated with the University of Our Lady of Mercy, but the cause of its occurrence remains unknown.
Ms Berejiklian said the number of new infections remains low, She was worried about the number of “mysterious cases” that could not be traced back to the source.
“I’m happy that the number of cases is declining, but it’s the same because weekly cases of unknown origin are accumulated, albeit a little less anxious,” said Ms. Vegeklian.
Berejiklian said officials are concerned that the virus may continue to spread in western Sydney.
“Looking back on Melbourne, that’s a big concern because it didn’t get worse because of the high number of cases in Melbourne,” she said.
“They had undetected community transmissions, but it unknowingly reached the stage where it formed several different clusters. I absolutely don’t want that to happen here in New South Wales.” she said.
Today, the state Department of Education announced a ban on students moving out of their local communities or zones for extra-curricular or school-related activities.
“The principle we are trying to achieve is not, for example, a team in one area of Sydney playing in another area of Sydney,” Dr. Chant said.
“We are trying to limit the movement of people from around our metropolitan area and across our region.”
Dr Chant said health officials have found students aged 11 and 12.
“But they are also in an era where they can keep social distances, and they can stay compliant, not mobile [with health advice]”She said.
