OPH warns of possible measles outbreaks at two Ottawa churches
The City of Ottawa Public Health warned Tuesday that people who recently attended two Ottawa churches may have been exposed to measles.
Ottawa Public Health said the alert stemmed from a cluster investigation of five measles cases that occurred within the same family.
Anyone who attended these churches on these days could have been infected.
- Sunday, October 12th, 10:20 a.m. to 2:00 p.m., St. Clement Parish, St. Anne's Church, 528 Old St. Patrick Street, Lowertown.
- It will be held from 9 a.m. to noon daily from Monday, Sept. 29 to Thursday, Oct. 2 at St. George Parish, 415 Piccadilly Avenue in the Island Park area.
OPH recommends that anyone who was there at the time check their measles vaccination status and monitor for symptoms such as: Fever, cough, runny nose, irritated eyes, white spots in the mouth, or a red rash starting on the face.
Symptoms usually appear within 21 days, so that deadline expires on Thursday for those who attended St George's Hospital and on November 2 for those who attended St Clement's Hospital.
There are specific instructions For those who develop symptoms within that period.
OPH says there will be 10 cases of the highly contagious viral disease among Ottawa residents by 2025, the first such case. From 2019.
