The FDA warns more thyroid drugs to be recalled because they are not strong enough

Voluntary recalls are from Acella Pharmaceuticals. Acella Pharmaceuticals is recalling two lots of NP Thyroid 15 and NP Thyroid 120 tablets. Patients with hypothyroidism who are receiving intensive medication are at risk of returning to the range of hypothyroidism and developing associated symptoms.
The recovered thyroid drug is sold in strengths of 15 mg and 120 mg. They contain both T3 and T4 hormones for those who cannot be treated with synthetic T4 hormones. People with hypothyroidism taking these tablets may recover from symptoms if their actual hormone levels are below the indicated levels. Symptoms include fatigue, dry skin, depression, swelling of the thyroid gland, cold sensation, hair loss, and swelling of the face.
According to the company’s recall, highlighted by the FDA last week, Acella Pharmaceutical has received four reports of “adverse events” that may be associated with the recalled lot of drugs. Both recalled products were sold in bottles of 100 tablets. The 15 mg intensity is valid for October 2020 and the 120 mg intensity recall date is November 2020.
