The first signs of the virus spread positive in 10 tests in St. Louis County Prison | Coronavirus

The facility had a very low incidence of coronavirus during the seven months of the pandemic, with 37 prisoners and 24 employees undergoing nearly 3,000 tests by Friday. All previous cases have been traced back to infections before individuals entered prison.
According to a news release from the Department of Health, prisoners were positive at a regular checkup last Friday. County health officials tested prisoners and staff in contact with prisoners.
So far, the test has found eight more positive results between an asymptomatic inmate with COVID-19 and one employee experiencing symptoms. According to the news release, the cause of the outbreak was unclear.
Jeff Smith, a member of the prison advisory board, said more staff and prisoners would be inspected on Friday. The prison currently holds 867 prisoners. Its capacity is 1,232.
