Outbreak of COVID-19 was declared at Kitchener Elementary School
According to the Waterloo Regional Municipal Board of Education (WRDSB), an outbreak of COVID-19 was declared at Kitchener Elementary School after two students in the same cohort were tested positive for coronavirus.
Waterloo Public Health states that it has conducted an investigation and determined the relevance between the incidents at JF Carmichael Elementary School.

The state government declares an outbreak at school only if there is a clear link between the incidents.
The board states that the current classroom has been dismissed and no other students will be dismissed.
“WRDSB is working with public health in the Waterloo region to prevent further spread of COVID-19 among students, staff and communities,” the board said in a statement.
“We will continue to be instructed by public health and will provide further updates as needed.”
This is the third time an outbreak has been declared in the area since school reopened in September.
There is also an active outbreak at Cardinal Leger Elementary School, as two students tested positive.
In September, an outbreak was declared at the University of Waterloo Vocational Training School in Kitchener after students and teachers tested positive.
Waterloo Public Health announced 23 new positive tests for coronavirus on Saturday, increasing the total number of cases in the region to 1,881.
Nineteen people were also removed from the virus, pushing the total number of cases resolved to 1,638.
In the Waterloo region, there are 123 active COVID-19 cases, including 3 in hospital.
