ELKO-Eight COVID-19 cases have been identified in a sheriff’s office detention facility in the last few days, infecting two personnel and six prisoners.

“After being notified that staff were positive late last week, close contact and potential exposure were identified through internal contact tracing,” the county said. “Staff were quarantined and tested, and prisoners were offered tests over the weekend.”

The results were positive for one additional staff member and six prisoners, for a total of eight cases in the facility. As of late Tuesday afternoon, several tests on staff and prisoners were waiting for results.
Inmates who test positive for COVID-19 have been quarantined and closely monitored by the prison medical team. Enhanced cleaning and disinfection, and enhanced symptom monitoring were implemented to control the spread of the virus within the facility.
Staff and prisoners who test negative in the next few days and weeks will be provided with additional tests.
