14-day incidence declines for 6 consecutive days
The 14-day Covid-19 incidence nationwide has been declining for the sixth straight day.
Last week it fell by 18%.
Currently, the incidence per 100,000 is 253.5.
It comes as Two more deaths from Covid-19 552 new cases were announced on Sunday.
Of these cases, 173 were Dublin, 86 were Cork, 40 were Limerick, 30 were Donegal, and the remaining 223 spanned all other counties.
Currently, there are a total of 1,915 Covid-19-related deaths in Ireland and 62,002 confirmed cases of the virus.
As of 2:00 pm on Saturday, 330 Covid-19 patients were hospitalized, 47 of whom were in the ICU.
As HSE said it is planning a vaccine clinic, some key candidates are expected to complete Phase 3 trials by the end of this year.
However, public health expert Professor Anthony Stains says it will take some time before the public is ready.
“I know some people say they will get an effective vaccine in February.
“I don’t really think it will happen.
“I don’t know how to produce enough vaccines, spread enough vaccines, and inoculate enough people fast enough.
“Even if we have a very effective vaccine, the sign of that vaccine is that it may be 40% or 50% effective, like the flu vaccine.
“But the vaccine itself is not effective enough to eliminate the virus.”
