Senior home turns out to be hot spot of coronavirus crisis

At least 37 people have died from coronavirus infections in Colorado nursing homes and homes for the elderly. This is more than a quarter of the total 126 deaths reported by the state on Saturday, but the most recent deaths at the senior center may not yet be reflected in the state’s official total .

Colorado Public Radio has identified 27 nursing homes in Colorado with at least one case of COVID-19, a respiratory illness caused by a novel coronavirus. There are outbreaks in at least 21 of these facilities, which are defined as having more than one case.

On Saturday afternoon, Boulder County health officials confirmed the death of a 90-year-old COVID-19 in a nursing home. A press release sent via e-mail confirms the spread of COVID-19 in facilities for the elderly in the state.

“Visitors are not allowed to enter nursing homes after March 13, but come to work in these communities or deliver necessary items, wear masks, and implement good hand hygiene. We strongly recommend that you keep them off if you are sick, ”said Gina Bear, COVID Responsible Infection Control Branch Manager, Boulder County’s Public Health Division. “We work closely with long-term care partners to ensure that we have the supplies we need, including CDC guidance on the long-term use of supplies.”

County spokesperson Chana Gusettis said that this was the only death that occurred in a care facility for the elderly in the county and did not give the name of the facility.

Other facilities with known deaths associated with COVID-19 include the Amberwood Court Rehabilitation and Care Community, which has two deaths, and the Denver North Care Center, which has one death. Both are located in Denver and are run by Vivage Senior Living. According to CDPHE, the company operates dozens of facilities in Colorado, including Greeley’s Fairacres Manor, where COVID-19 had occurred. Vivage spokesperson Cynthia Coenen declined to announce the incident and the number of deaths at Fairacres Manor.

Four other Denver facilities have reported one death from COVID-19. Jewel Care Center operated by Saba Senior Care. Sunrise at Cherry Creek. Raleigh Center. Windsor Garden.

The Tri-County Health Department reported four other deaths at the target county center.

The Heart of the Rockies Regional Medical Center in Salida confirmed another death at the town’s Columbine Manor Care Center.

Overall, 126 known deaths in Colorado include 15 newly reported by the state on Saturday. Colorado plans to double the number of deaths from coronavirus in more than five days. This is much more promising than three days before the deaths double in hot spots such as New York.
