1 death, 395 new cases, R number 0.6

In the last 24 hours, the Ministry of Health has been notified of one death related to the coronavirus and 395 cases of new illness.

In Ireland, a total of 1,965 people died in Covid-19. This includes notification of the death of one person.

The total number of cases is 66,632, including notifications of 10 previously confirmed cases.

The number of ICUs is 39, an increase of one from yesterday. There are 279 coronavirus patients in the hospital, and 20 have been hospitalized in the last 24 hours.

Of the cases notified today, 132 were Dublin, 31 were Cork, 27 were Donegal, 27 were Limerick, 27 were Galway, and the remaining 151 were spread to the other 18 counties.

Almost two-thirds (65%) are under the age of 45 and include 197 men and 198 women.

Professor Philip Nolan, Chair of The Irish Epidemiological Modeling Advisory Group of the National Public Health Emergency Team said: “The number of reproductions R is currently estimated to be 0.6.

“The data suggest that Level 3 measurements measured a stable number of cases, especially when infection rates were high, and Level 5 measurements were needed to control infection.

“If we continue to work, we can reduce the infection to very low levels.”

Professor Nolan said hospital admissions remained “about 20” per day. “At best they are stable, but there was no significant reduction in these hospitalizations,” he said.

“It’s the experience of Europe and our neighbors, and many of the countries we have close travel relationships with. It will be one of the most significant risks to us.

“One of the biggest risks is the reimportation of illness from traveling abroad.”

The CMO said large family gatherings and office parties would be “impossible” to survive the festive period in a “safe way.”

Professor Nolan said the situation in which the test reduces the risk of travel is “very narrow” because “undetected” results do not guarantee that someone does not have Covid.

When traveling to the country, Dr. Tony Holohan said he had to “continue on the current path” before recommending a change in the 5 km travel limit.

He hopes the situation will continue to improve, but said it is premature to say whether NPHET recommends changing restrictions so that people can travel outside the county.

NPHET will formally consider this at its meeting on 26 November.

“If there is a change in the 5km travel limit, we need to improve the situation. We hope it will continue to improve, but we still don’t know,” he said.

However, Dr. Holohan warned: “Not all parts of the country have the same decline in disease incidence.

“For example, the 14-day incidence of Donegal is 281 per 100,000, while the national average is 135 per 100,000.

“The country as a whole has the potential to succeed in keeping the disease at low levels in the coming weeks.

“We achieved significant restraints during the Level 5 period. In the coming weeks, we will have the opportunity to further reduce the transmission.”

Asked at the end of the month if Donegal could stay under Level 5 limits, Dr. Holohan said there was still time for “significant improvements.”
