Paris (Reuters) – A coronavirus-infected mink was found on a farm in the Eure-et-Loire region of western France, killing 1,000 minks on the farm, the French Ministry of Agriculture said on Sunday.
Cases of mink have also been reported elsewhere in Europe, especially Sweden, Greece and the Netherlands.
In Denmark, the virus was found to be mutated to another strain. Experts were concerned that the vaccine could be less effective if it infects humans. About 17 million minks will be killed there.
France began testing four mink farms in mid-November.
“At this stage, tests have shown that the virus is circulating on the Wool Eloar farm,” the ministry said. “The second farm is intact. The last two farms are still undergoing testing and results are expected during the week.”
