Norway: H5N8 bird flu detected in wild geese

Bird flu was detected in geese found in Rogaland. The Veterinary Institute analyzed samples from birds showing highly pathogenic avian influenza A (H5N8).

The virus caused bird outbreaks in several European countries this fall. The virus can cause serious illness in birds, but it has not been detected in humans. The Norwegian Food Safety Agency is following up on the incident.

Several outbreaks of highly pathogenic avian influenza A (H5N8) were seen in wild birds and poultry in Europe this fall.
