“A commonly used BP drug that is safe for Covid patients”

January 8th, New York (SocialNews.XYZ) Researchers claim that drugs to treat hypertension (BP) do not affect the outcome of patients admitted with Covid-19.

This study, published in The Lancet Respiratory Medicine Journal, shows that patients are not at risk of continuing these medications while hospitalized with Covid-19.

“Our study results show that it is important that these medications can be safely continued for patients admitted with Covid-19,” said Julio A. Chirinos, an associate professor at the University of Pennsylvania in the United States. The doctor of medicine says.

“Observational studies were rapid, but randomized trials are important to set a definitive answer to the potential effects of these commonly used blood pressure drugs in the Covid-19 setting.” Chirinos added.

In this study, investigators enrolled 152 participants in several countries.

As part of the REPLACE Covid trial, researchers found that ACE inhibitors (ACEIs) or angiotensin receptor blockers (ARBs) (two classes of drugs that treat hypertension) alleviate complications or are more serious. I investigated if it could lead to symptoms.

According to the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, more than 49 million US adults are taking medications to treat high blood pressure, of which about 83% (41 million) are taking ACEI or ARB.

Researchers have identified the time to death, the length of time supported by mechanical ventilation or extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO), the length of time for renal replacement therapy, and a modified continuous organ failure assessment. We have developed an innovative global rank score that classifies patient outcomes based on four factors.

By analyzing patient outcome data, the team found that discontinuation of ACEI and ARB did not affect global rank scores compared to continuation of these medications.

This evidence supports the international community’s recommendations to continue ACEI and ARB treatment for patients admitted with Covid unless there is a clear alternative medical problem with ongoing treatment.
