The new case of COVID-19 seems to be a little more stable lately, but the virus continues to kill Minnesota.

According to data released Friday by the Minnesota Department of Health (MDH), coronavirus deaths increased by 28 on the final day, up an order of magnitude from 16 on Thursday to the beginning of the week. This brings the total number of lives lost in the state to 6,168 since the pandemic began.

MDH reported an additional 1,145 COVID cases, bringing the total for Minnesota to 459,747. The new case was based on the results of 44,777 tests (41,032 PCR, 3,745 antigens) processed in private and state laboratories. Health officials consider a positive PCR test to be a confirmed COVID case and a positive antigen test to be a possible case.

Vaccinations will continue to grow as local clinics process ages 65 and older, but as of Wednesday, 345,636 people across Minnesota had at least one vaccination, and another 96,842 had two. The round vaccination series has been completed.

The state has set a goal of administering the doses received by 90% of healthcare providers within 3 days. Currently, that number is 74%.

Hospitalization rates are fairly stable, despite the overall decline in new cases. As of Thursday, 450 beds were used to treat coronavirus patients throughout the state, 95 of which were in the ICU. The number of open beds in the Twin Cities Metro Hospital is quite small, with only 131 non-ICU beds currently available, with an availability of 3.6%. The ICU bed is better, with an occupancy rate of 7.8%.

Since the arrival of COVID-19, a total of 24,200 people have been hospitalized and 5,024 patients in need of treatment in the ICU.

According to MDH, 443,253 people who were virus-positive at one point were so good that they no longer needed to be quarantined.

Young adults between the ages of 20 and 29 make up the largest group of coronavirus cases, with 87,641 and 9 deaths. These cases account for just under 20% of Minnesota’s total. The group of deaths between the ages of 85 and 89 is the largest group of death, with 6,025 and 1,174. This means that 2 out of 10 people in the demographics who tested positive for COVID-19 died.

Hennepin County has the highest COVID activity in the state, with 95,383 and 1,522 deaths, Ramsey County with 41,043 and 760 deaths, Dakota County with 33,962 and 358 deaths, and Anoka County with 31,657. And 371 people have died.

Cook County, northeastern Minnesota, has the lowest COVID activity, with 116 deaths and zero deaths.
